Holiday vibes

Holiday vibes

For the next two weeks, I will be staying with my family, my sister, and her kids, as always, in Los Monteros, South Spain. For several years now, we’ve proudly owned a beautiful apartment with a sea view there. We frequently visit Los Monteros, even for just a few days, to do something different. Besides our little frog country, there are two other countries I love to visit: Spain and America, as you’ve probably read before. Both countries hold significant meaning for me, thanks to my parents.

Sta Cruz de Tenerife

My love for Spain began because my parents decided in the sixties to emigrate to the Canary Islands. That was during the Franco era. My parents wanted to see if they could do something with the budding tourism in Spain and the islands. We ended up living in Tenerife and Gran Canaria for twelve years; I was even born in Santa Cruz de Tenerife and attended kindergarten there, among other things.

Once back in the Netherlands, near Zwolle, Spain was never far away. Whenever possible, we went to Spain every holiday. My father searched for manufacturers of leather belts to represent in the Netherlands; it also gave him a good excuse to keep going back.

America

Then there’s America… My father was a big fan of the country. Not because of Hollywood, but more because of the opportunities. It’s the country where a newspaper boy can become a millionaire if he works hard and has a bit of luck. The same country that liberated our country and my grandparents, who were in the resistance during World War II, just in time from the Germans. It’s also the country where my grandparents had free passage to emigrate after the war, thanks to their activities in the resistance. They never did, and I suspect my father, though he denies it, has always regretted that.

So, America and Spain, two countries I love to visit, and for which I use the same excuse as my father: seek out business, and you can go there more often. America, where I often get to present and where partners like Calldrip are located. I find an ‘excuse’ to be there three to four times a year for a week. That week is usually enough because you also see how ‘morally’ poor the country can be behind the facade.

I’ve found a lot of business there and made many real friends through those business contacts. And now Spain: for the past year, I’ve been a proud partner and reseller of the best lead management system for universal car companies called Walcu. For the coming years, I will remain loyal to these roots that have quietly shaped my entire life…
